BMC Software Buys Tideway Systems
- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Enterprise management software provider BMC Software (www.bmc.com) announced on Thursday it will acquire privately-held IT discovery solutions provider Tideway Systems (www.tideway.com).
The acquisition will enhance BMC’s Business Service Management platform and help organizations reduce the risks associated with business-critical initiatives such as data center consolidation, virtualization and compliance. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tideway offers all the discovery requirements for BSM and can be integrated with BMC’s Atrium Configuration Management Database, says BMC.
Additionally, Tideway provides customers a large open library of predefined IT configuration discovery patterns.
When combined with the BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping solution, Tideway’s platform delivers visibility into the data center and reduces the time and resources needed to model, manage and maintain applications and services.
The companies say the transaction is expected to close within a week.
“Given the nature of today’s complex and rapidly evolving computing environments, deep visibility and clear understanding of the critical business services and their associated relationships to specific IT resources is fundamental to improving service quality, minimizing risk and reducing IT costs,” says Dev Ittycheria, president of Enterprise Service Management at BMC Software. “The acquisition provides BMC with application discovery and dependency mapping capabilities to manage and maintain complex data center environments.”
BMC, which also owns data center automation provider BladeLogic, offers software for managing IT infrastructure.
The company works with many partners in the data center infrastructure market, including Cisco, EMC, Dell, and Sun Microsystems.
