The system will allow students to use cloud computing for new email services, as well file storage and sharing, which the school system believes will help the young people in several ways. Firstly, they will learn computing skills required to become successful adults when they graduate from Kentucky schools. Beyond that, it will enhance the learning experience by promoting collaboration on assignments, both in and out of school.

“Historically, it would have required months and potentially years to migrate hundreds of thousands of people to a new solution,” Chuck Austin, the school system’s project manager, said.

The Oregon state school system adopted a similar cloud computing program earlier when it implemented Google Apps for Education. The system expects that it will save $1.5 million per year as a result of the cloud computing transition.ADNFCR-2178-ID-19825849-ADNFCR
